EFMP Special Education Symposium

Join EFMP as we host a Special Education Symposium for parents new to the IEP process with school age children and those who have children transitioning into adulthood.
There will be guest speakers covering a variety of special education topics to educate families during 30-minute sessions. Parents will choose four sessions to attend out of eight possible options.
The topics we plan to cover are:
• Intro to Special Education—referral, identification, and 504 vs. IEPs
• Understanding the components of the IEP
• Behavioral interventions
• Understanding ABA Therapy
• Understanding speech-language therapy
• High school transition planning
• Planning for life after graduation—permanent dependency, special needs trusts, housing options, finances (SSI/Medicaid) employment—This is a huge topic, so it may just be topics for considerations and resources/links for additional information, training, etc.
• Resolving differences with your child’s school regarding IEP services, accommodations, discipline, etc.
Come prepared with any educational questions you may have regarding these topics.
If you are unable to attend, but have questions, comments, and ideas, please send them to our email: smb_quanticoefmp@usmc.mil.
*Walk-ins are welcomed if spots are available. This event is handicap accessible*
