Support and Relief for Military Families
Some military families with special needs may seek caregivers who are able to provide respite care, which provides time for self-care or to find a community that understands your lifestyle and the unique stressors and demands. The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) offers resources to help reduce the stress of caregiving and provide a much-needed break.
The EFMP respite reimbursement program provides 20 hours per month of respite care to Level of Need 3 families and 32 hours per month to Level of Need 4 families, allowing primary caregivers a temporary break from caregiving. Eligible families can select their own respite care provider, including a trusted friend or family member with appropriate certification/licensure, and request reimbursement from EFMP for the cost paid to the provider. The benefit is available to families who care for a family member with severe or profound special needs. Contact your local EFMP team for additional information and to find out if you are eligible.
“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say it's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem. Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.” - Mister Fred Rogers
