Prepare Now for a More Successful PCS Move with EFMP

Check out these helpful tips your family may be able to use during your next PCS move:

  1. Request a consultation with a Headquarters Marine Corps Exceptional (HQMC) Family Member Program (EFMP) Assignment Case Manager. Consultations provide an opportunity to confirm the accuracy of your EFMP enrollment paperwork, ensuring the appropriate services are available at your gaining location. Email: hqmc.efmp@usmc.mil
  2. Connect with your EFMP Family Caseworker early on. They will be conducting regular check-ins throughout your transition to assist with your needs and share information about your new location.
  3. Moving to another Tricare Region? You can begin your enrollment transfer before you move. To start, contact your new contractor: Active Duty Service Members | TRICARE
  4. Getting established with a new Primary Care Manager or specialty care provider can take some time. Ensure you have a supply or prescription of necessary medications prior to leaving your current duty station.
  5. Same goes for educational documents. If your child is receiving Special Education services, make sure you have a hard copy and digital copy of educational documentation, such as an individualized education plan (IEP), to provide to the new school.
  6. Check out Military OneSource for a plethora of resources on moving your life, family, and belongings.
  7. Attend a Smooth Move Workshop to gain helpful tips and answer financial questions about your upcoming move. These workshops can be attended either in person or online, depending on where you live.
  8. On a personal note, have each family member bring along comfort item(s) to make sure they have something to make the new house feel like home.

You are never alone. Contact your local EFMP or Relocation Assistance office for personalized support.
