Dual-Careers, One Team: Ready at Home
Military life requires teamwork at home just as much as it does on the job. Balancing two demanding careers can be challenging, but approaching it as a team can strengthen your relationship, build resilience, and support readiness.
Communicate and Connect
Stay connected by making regular schedule check-ins a habit. When challenges come up, good communication keeps your team strong. Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB)’s PREP and Say What? workshops give couples real tools to work through disagreements and communicate more effectively.
For additional family support and relationship resources, connect with your local Family Advocacy Program (FAP).
Understand How You Connect
Understanding how you and your partner communicate can make it easier to navigate differences and show appreciation. MCFTB offers workshops such as Four Lenses and Five Love Languages to help couples better understand communication and relationship styles.
For dedicated relationship enrichment, consider a local CREDO retreat.
Plan for Readiness Together
Coordinate career goals, military requirements, family responsibilities, and upcoming changes before they become competing priorities. Programs such as L.I.N.K.S. can help families build knowledge and local support networks.
For dual-military families, keep your Family Care Plan current and make sure both service members understand the plan before deployments, training, or other extended absences.
Use Resources That Give You Time Back
You don't have to manage every family responsibility alone. MCCS offers programs and services that can help military families navigate the demands of daily life, including:
- New Parent Support Program: Parenting education and home-based support for eligible families.
- Child & Youth Programs: Childcare and youth programs designed to support military families.
- School Liaison: Assistance with school transitions, especially during PCS moves.
Strong families strengthen the force. By connecting with MCCS resources before challenges arise, military families can build resilience, strengthen relationships, and stay ready for whatever comes next.
Build your team. Plan ahead. Stay ready.
